David Golding has started to write an introductory book for CakePHP with the title “The newbie’s introduction to CakePHP”. As the title indicates, the book is aimed at newbies and so it covers the first steps with CakePHP. It is not completed yet, but I think it will become a great addition to the manual.
You can download a preview of the book as a PDF from David Golding’s website: http://www.davidgoldingdesign.com/newbie-cakephp.pdf.
Update 2007-07-31: There exists now a forum for the book.

Currently, Its more a “introduction to webservers” than a introducion to CakePHP. Lets hope there will be nice help for dealing with cake 1.2 in the near future.
Just skimmed it now – looks well written, especially some of the more neglected parts of the introductions to Cake I’ve read (like configuring apache – I learned that at the Symfony site :) ).
I just put up an updated copy. It covers Cake 1.2 installation and building your first application, so it is now, at least, a little more than an intro to web servers :) Just follow the same link provided in the article.
