Today, the bakery opened its doors. From the announcement:

Well, the doors are open at http://bakery.cakephp.org. Over the next few days we hope everyone
will help us move the content from the wiki over to the Bakery. If you have a tutorial on the wiki,
something you wrote up on your blog, or something you have been planning to share, help us test out the Bakery.
The Code section of the Bakery is the perfect place to put your latest and greatest snippet. If you have a
component, helper, model or some other nifty code on CakeForge or your hard drive, throw it into the Code
section of the Bakery.

There is also a new bugfix release of CakePHP (1.1.8.3544) available.

As I got an invitation to test the pic2color service, here a short review.

The goal of pic2color is to extract a color scheme from an image. It is an interesting idea, but the service is not really practical yet. You can select or upload an existing image, and it creates a WordPress theme with the color scheme from the image. If you don’t want to use that theme you have to manually extract the color values from the CSS file…

To test it yourself use the following credentials (I don’t know how long they will be valid):

Login Name: alpha_sZbX3mkr
Password: pic2color

I am sure you have noticed that the CakePHP wiki is down. It seems that it won’t come back. Here a transcript of the related discussion from the IRC log from yesterday (I removed unrelated stuff):

16:26:39 W|cked: Anyone know when the wiki will be back up?
16:27:57 PhpNut_: More then likely I will not be putting it back online
16:32:11 W|cked: Why?
16:32:40 PhpNut_: it is very unorganized
16:32:49 W|cked: Was it of any use?
16:32:55 PhpNut_: yes parts of it
16:32:58 W|cked: =\
16:33:02 PhpNut_: and those will be saved
16:33:13 PhpNut_: and added the another app

So, we have to be patient :) In the meantime, use the manual, the API, or join #cakephp on freenode.net.

Update (2006-04-28): As mikv already commented: the wiki is back. The tutorials are all available, but a lot of pages have been removed in the docs section.

Some of you may know the project “CakeMMM” started by Felix Geisendörfer and Frando. In the meantime they renamed the project to “SpliceIt!”, a much better name than “CakeMMM” in my opinion. They also opened the SpliceIt! project on CakeForge. The project description from their CakeForge page:

The main goal of the project is to make code for often used things as Blogs, CMS, Galleries, etc. easier reusable. The project itself will provide plugins for the follwing things: User/Right Managment, Theming, i18n, i12n,Url Aliasing, and more

I am curious about it, as Felix is known for creative solutions ;-)
